Brevio
In the semester project 'Play. Create. Learn. Play', at the HTWG Constance the task was to develop a game that has both a digital and an analogue component. A special requirement was, that it should teach the player something. In addition we had to create a video to explain the rules of the game.
I decided in favour of an illustrated 2D platformer that would form the playing field for a card game. I chose history as the learning theme and narrowed it down to industrialization and the Industrial Revolution. I developed a protagonist that the players would control through the levels and who allowed them to discover the various relevant events, personalities and inventions.

Brevio is a mix between a classical Jump'n'Run and a card game. While the digital part is to be understood as a playing field, the analogue component of the game is a card game in which the players have to collect points in order to advance on the playing field and thus in time. I developed cards from the various events, inventions, personalities and resources that can be seen in the game. Each with their own special characteristics. Every round, a player gains a certain number of points and can move that number of years on the digital board. If the players encounter an event, an invention or a personality, they receive a corresponding buff or nerf on the next card that is played. The first player to reach the 20th century wins.Â
